The goldfinchon your desktop.
A painted European goldfinch for your Mac or Windows desktop, one of six Deskiee birds.
What it looks like
A European goldfinch: a red face, a black and white head, a warm brown back with buff flanks, and a bright yellow bar across black wings.
What it does all day
The goldfinch walks along the bottom of your screen, flies up to the top edge of a window you have open and stands there. Move the window and it rides along; close it and it drops off and finds somewhere else. Drag it to carry it, or tap a rhythm and it sings it back.
Its own moves
- It flies the way goldfinches do, in bounds: a burst of wingbeats lifts it, then its wings shut and it dips.
- When it is dizzy it flicks its wings to keep its balance.
With chirps switched on (they start off), it has its own call and song, modelled on the real bird's.
The real bird
This is the European goldfinch, not the American goldfinch, which is a different bird that is mostly bright yellow in summer.
European goldfinches live across Europe, North Africa and western Asia, and feed on seeds such as thistle and teasel.
